In the age of AI disruption, having a well-defined and aligned strategy is more crucial than ever. As AI continues to reshape industries and business models, the following questions become paramount: Do you have a strategy that accounts for AI’s transformative impact? Is your team truly aligned on this AI-driven strategy? Does everyone share a common understanding of the way forward?
These questions should kickstart any strategic planning exercise in today’s rapidly evolving landscape. To dive deeper, I recommend interviewing members of the executive team and key stakeholders across the organization, posing these five questions and asking them to rate each on a scale from 1 “strongly disagree” to 5 “strongly agree”:
๐. We have a clear and shared understanding of the current
situation, including AI’s disruptive forces, emerging
competitive dynamics, and identified growth opportunities
leveraging AI capabilities.
๐.We have a compelling vision for where to take our business in
the next 3-5 years, considering the transformative potential of
AI and its impact on our industry.
๐.We have a clear and common understanding of strategic
directions and goals, i.e., where to play, how to win, and the AI-
powered capabilities needed to gain a competitive edge.
๐.We have a clear and shared understanding of how to achieve
our strategic goals in an AI-driven world, e.g., strategic
management system, sequence of moves, and AI
implementation roadmap.
๐.We have a clear plan on how to implement the AI-centric
strategy, broken down into initiatives and functional strategies.
We know who does what, when, why, and with what expected
results.
More often than not, these ratings will be scattered, highlighting areas of misalignment and knowledge gaps. This then becomes a valuable starting point to define what needs to be worked on to develop a cohesive, AI-focused strategy that resonates across the organization.
In the era of AI disruption, simply having a strategy is no longer enough. The key is fostering a shared understanding of how AI will shape your industry, identifying opportunities to leverage AI capabilities, and aligning your team on a strategic vision that embraces this transformative technology.
๐๐๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐ญ๐จ ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง: Schedule meetings with your team to discuss these five questions and assess your organization’s readiness for an AI-driven strategy. A 30-45 minute session should suffice. Alternatively, if you’d prefer an external facilitator to lead this exercise with your team, I’d be happy to assist. Simply reply to explore this option further.
